A SELECTION OF
PHOTOS FROM THE
NOVEMBER 2007 ISSUE OF FOCUS ON SCUGOG
Scary Scugog
Scarecrow Contest
Residential and business areas of Scugog took on a early Halloween look throughout October as the owners of Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery held their second annual Scugog Scarecrow Festival.
A walk along Queen St. brought residents and visitors to the downtown face-to-face with an amusing variety of characters.
According to Meta4 Contemporary Gallery co-owner Birgitta MacLeod, the judges were very impressed with the quality of entries this year.
The winners of the 2007 festival are:
• Best Business Entry - Herder Sales
• Best Family Entry - Hollet Family
• Best Community Group - Meta4 Creative Kids Club
• Best Traditional - Stonemoor Daycare
• Best Interpretation of Title or Theme - Tracy and Stephanie Coveart
• Most Original - Native Focus
This was the second consecutive win for both Herder Sales and the Hollet family.
Judges also awarded Honourable Mention status to six more entries: for best business, Dana’s Goldsmithing; for family entry, Gary & Marsha Hill, and for community group, the YMCA’s scarecrow. Kudos also go out to Focus on Scugog for originality, Treasures Just for You for interpretation of title or theme, and the Rowett Family for a traditional scarecrow.
The contest was judged by John Richardson, representing the Scugog Council for the Arts; Councillor Bobbie Drew and Heritage Committee member Shauna Kennedy.
The Scugog Scarecrow Festival is hosted by Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery and the Port Perry BIA. For more information, contact Meta4 Gallery at 905-985-1534.
