The Terry Fox Run gets underway for 2008
After heavy rains all night, the sky cleared and more than 400 people showed up to take part in this year’s annual Terry Fox Run in Port Perry.
Organizer Elizabeth McArthur was happy with the turnout despite having about 60 fewer participants than a year earlier. “We are so fortunate to have so many people participate year after year,” she said following the opening ceremonies.
Early calculations show that this year’s Terry Fox Run brought in about $22,100.00 compared to the final figure of $25,053.00 last year. Elizabeth expects the total proceeds to reach very close to last years amount by the time the final campaign figures come in.

CANCER FIGHTERS - Among the hundreds of Scugog residents that took part in the Terry Fox Run on September 14 were 92 year old Les Smith, who has been cancer free for 15 years, and 17 month old Caden Williamson who was diagnosed with liver cancer one year ago and is now cancer free. Holding Caden is is father Ryan. More Terry Fox Run photos on page 34.

Terry’s Team members, above, are always an inspiration for the local participants and volunteers at the Port Perry Terry Fox Run and cheered loudly when their names were announced. This year’s group are, from left, front row – Tammy Horvath, Sammy Robbins, Rachel de Langley, Leslie Smith. Centre row – Mary Holt, Kim McCann, Mike Wallace, Jay Smith. Back row – Reg Philip, Don Sinclair, Jeff Blair, Caden Williamson (baby – team member) & dad Ryan. It takes a lot of volunteers to organize the Terry Fox Run and in the above at right are some volunteers from the Blackstock Lions Club. From back, Doug Day, Doug Benns, Carter Roberts and Eleanor Colwell.
